I love photographing wildlife. I find it especially rewarding when I capture an auspicious event in nature. I also love doing portraits! If I can make you happy with the way you look, I’ll be happy! So I will check in to make sure you are comfortable with the kind of shots we are getting. I’m flexible, and I don’t cost a lot. I do photography because I love it, not to become wealthy from it.
Downy Woodpecker on Tree Trunk
So, I was out photographing today, and it was chilly, but nice and sunny. I saw a woodpecker land nearby to get my attention, and then it flew up onto the trunk of a tree in our yard. Here is the best shot I got of it. I believe it’s a female Downy Woodpecker, similar…
The Raptor
Today while I was out, I encountered this hawk again. I saw it before, but never got a good shot of it until now. I also found a mourning dove with a broken wing that I caught and brought to a wildlife rehabilitator. Hopefully she recovers, her mate will miss her. I saw a lot…
Olympus Image Stabilization and Cropping
Even with only 12 megapixels, the resolution of my camera is so great that I took this shot at 1/320th’s of a second while lying on the ground. Here it is uncropped vs. cropped: The Image Stabilization of the camera plus the relatively fast shutter speed allows me to use a low ISO and…
The Peace of Mother Nature
Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve had a “happy place” down by the bridge of Irondequoit Creek, in Penfield NY. The first year that I lived there, it was stocked with TONS of monster brown trout! I caught some as large as 18″
Gold Finches… and more!
Today I set up my SLR on my new tripod right in front of my window. I sat for about 2 hours during peak sunlight and managed to capture some great shots! Please let me know if you like them.
4th of July
Well, it’s almost Independence day, hopefully I’ll get some more shots of fireworks. But here is a preview… I forgot to take my ISO off of auto, so it’s a little noisy, PUN INTENDED! 😀 I also went to the Henrietta fireworks with my brother. I got some high-quality shots without so much noise….
Annual Bee Photo
I have a lot of new photography gear on the way, and a few jobs to do. I’m available on a Time For Prints basis. Feel free to contact me.
Professional Godox Studio Lighting
I purchased some monolights from BHPhotoVideo.com. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I’ve never had any professional lighting before, so I went with a kit. They arrived very quickly, in a well packaged box. First thing I noticed was how big they were. These are a travel variety, but they really provide more than ample…
Kitty’s Tail Wags Vigorously!
Yes, so I have a cat. I’ve tried to hide her the best I could, because she is so precious to me. But now that we’re settled into our own apartment, I can see that… It’s time for her to be a star! I used to call myself the WanderingiDog. Now she has become my…
New Photographic Opportunities
Although I’ve mostly lived alone, whether down south or in the Midwest, this is the first time I’ve actually had my own place in my hometown of Rochester. No complaints! I think my kitty and I are very happy here. During the pandemic I fell in love with an artist named Meg Myers….
Rose of Sharon Bushes
I use a telephoto lens for most of my macro shots. I know that’s not how you’re supposed to do it, but hey, it seems to work unbelievably well most of the time! Can’t really do bee photos with a cellphone camera.
Lumix 2.2x Telephoto Converter
I recently picked up a converter for my little Lumix. It was a “high definition” model on Amazon for $150. It definitely allows you to zoom in closer. 150mm is the optical Lumix limit on the camera, so if you multiply it by 2.2, you end up with 330mm. It was fun to play with…
Appreciating the small things of life…
I’m moving out of my mother’s apartment, and into my own apartment… I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to do the kind of photography I really enjoy, in my own yard or across my street and in the park. Hopefully, this will be a time of transformation, and I’ll adapt to doing whatever…
Happy Easter Sunday!
Today I simply stepped outside for a moment and was immediately immersed in wildlife, from a young squirrel running from branch to branch tree to tree, to a couple of rabbits hopping around! Let’s take some time to read the Gospel or about the “Good News,” remember, Jesus died for us all, no matter how…

Olympus Image Stabilization – Finally!
I’ve finally been able to get my hands on an Olympus camera that has the Image Stabilization working properly. This is a must for telephoto photography… As you can see, it works! This is an old camera, I got it from a vintage photography dealer. And it’s in great condition. Expect a lot of new…
New Camera!
I purchased an Olympus e-620, however the Image Stabilization on the camera broke within 1 month.
New $30 Monopod
I purchased was a Koolehaoda 64-inch Aluminum Monopod for $30. It features a twist lock action, wrist strap, and even a little waist pouch to put the monopod in while either carrying it or shooting your camera.
Flowers of East Rochester.
Welcome to Flower City Photography! We are in Rochester, New York, home of Kodak and the Lilac Festival in the springtime.
New 300mm Lens
So, I purchased a new zoom lens with a range of 70mm – 300mm. Has autofocus and manual focus. It is a must-have for wildlife photography. Yet short enough to do portraits, at the optimal focal length of 85mm.
What images can an $18 digital camera produce?
It’s not really the photography equipment that determines the quality of a photograph. Although a photo may me sharp and detailed, if not composed properly or exposed properly, it will lake aesthetic value.
The Squirrel & Hare
I usually have seen a lot of rabbits in our yard, that’s no surprise. We have a lot of trees on our property. However, this time there was also a very curious rabbit foraging on the grass.
Squirrel Nest
We have a squirrel family living in one of the trees in our yard. There are three adults and at least one baby squirrel. When I put out seeds for the birds, they are always the first ones to hog it as if it’s a Halloween bowl of candy!Today I finally got a good shot…
Buddy Dog
My mom owns a cute little dog named Buddy! He is a little old, at 15-year-old. His breed is Shih-Tzu/Poodle mix. His favorite snack is green beans of all things, and he barks until he gets them after dinner!
Ben is a busy bee.
